Relative Importance of Factors in College Admissions

What is given most importance in college admissions decisions?

As college application season ramps up once again, an annual survey of college admissions officers reiterates an important message for high school students who are worried sick about their SAT or ACT scores: The classes you take and the grades you earn are far more important to us than your test scores.

But if the percentage of admissions officers who ranked each factor of "considerable importance" and "moderate importance" are added together, while grades are first, standardized test scores and strength of curriculum tie for second place. What else counts?
